Seats
Most 3 wheel double buggies begin life as single pushchairs, although some can convert to take a second seat or carrycot by converting adapters (these are usually more common in tandem buggies). You'll also find that some models allow you to add a ride-on board to older children who would like to walk but still need some assistance.
If you're looking for a lightweight option that is ideal for urban streets, look into the Joie Evalite Duo. It's a breeze to move and comes with a large basket with plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins from at birth and will accept two car seats or a carrycot with a seat. However, the seats need to be oriented forward and there's not enough space for a shopping bag under, so you'll need a backpack for this.
If you like to go off-road then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good option. It's a side-by-side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy available on the market. It's much easier to get through narrow doors, on public transport and to climb over and over kerbs. It also has a handbrake that is attached to the adjustable handlebar for extra security and safety.

It is a true all-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension to make smooth work of bumpy surfaces. The phil&teds dots are fantastic single buggys that can be easily adapted to accommodate two (or three!) in multiple configurations. This is particularly helpful if you have an infant in a car seat, because the frame can be equipped with a wedgie that allows for optimal position, and also car seat adapters for a wider range of brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a triple wheeled buggy will determine how easy you and your child/children are able to push it. It is important to have a smooth ride because babies can feel every bump that comes along the road. This is especially true if you are driving on rough terrain like grass or roads that are not paved. Some models come with locking front tires to aid in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.
Some models use air-filled tyres that provide a fantastic all-terrain experience, but they can be prone to punctures, so ensure you have spares in the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres that are specifically designed to handle bumps and can be less prone to punctures but you might feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back if you choose to jog.

Folding
A three-wheel double buggy can fold very well to be stored. There are options that fold flat or stand up (as as if they were a pushchair) and others that open to reveal a more umbrella-like folding that has the option of a hand-operated break. In general, the more wheels a buggy has the more comfortable it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are bigger than the average size. You will have more stability and it is less likely that you will have to tip over or flip your child.
